Medical Applications

Most patients will come into contact with medical gases during their stay in hospital. Oxygen therapy is the administration of oxygen at concentrations greater than ambient air (21%).

Uses include:

  • Providing a basis for virtually all modern anaesthetic techniques
  • Restoring tissue oxygen tension by improving oxygen availability in a wide range of conditions such as Cyanosis, Shock, Severe Haemorrage, Carbon monoxide poisoning, Major Trauma, Cardiac/respiratory arrest
  • Aiding in resuscitation
  • Providing life support for artificially ventilated patients

Oxygen can be used post-operatively to:

  • Reduce incidence of surgical wound infection
  • Reduce levels of post-operative confusion and agitation
  • Aid cardiovascular stability

Being one of the most common therapy forms, oxygen therapy and the supply of oxygen is an important issue for most hospitals.

Traditionally, piped medical oxygen has been supplied from compressed gas cylinder manifolds or liquid pressurised vessels depending on the usage rate.

BOC Cryospeed liquid pressurised vessels provide great flexibility for mid-range gas consumption and provide the hospital with following advantages:

  • Elimination of handling
  • Hassle, hands free system
  • Labour saving for hospital staff
  • Reduced spaced needed compared with cylinder manifolds
